The recently re-instated and now only Transrail Badged Loco on the UK-Network 60061 found itself allocated to the Theale-Margam empty fuel-tanks '6B33' today.here viewed passing Farleaze, east of Badminton.Tele shot necessary as shadows were moving up the track towards train! Surprised picture as good as it was as standard lens shot would have been crap.Beggers can't be choosers!..27 june 2009.. 1240x905 600616b33farleaze270609.JPG |
Approaching the Westerleigh Area in the northern outskirts of Bristol is seen the 2-hour early! '6B33' Not too many nameless red tugs about these days so beggers can't be choosers.60096 doing the tugging..20 june 2009..Footnote----'Shed-Sized-Load' today just 16 bogies so lucky it was a Tug! 1240x824 60096yate6b33200609.jpg |
Runner-up in the Telly-Show ('DBS has got Talent' but they are storing it all!) 'Robert Boyle' 60013 emerges out into the sunlight at Wickwar-Tunnel with '6B13'.Running slightly ahead of schedule, recorded here at 11:45. ..19 june 2009.. 1240x827 600136b13wickwar190609.JPG |
Making a fine sight as it powers through the site of the old station at Coalpit-Heath in the northern outskirts of Bristol is '6M67',the nuclear fuel-rod train from Bridgewater to Sellafield.Today was a 'First' a pair of GM 47-rebuilds,57008 and 57003.Was running well-late so lack of hard sun was (for a change) welcomed! Note the immaculate condition of lead loco, this took part in the opening ceremony of the new Telford Freight Terminal on 10th of June and has been named using traditional plates ''Telford International Railfreight Park June-2009'' to commemorate the event..18 june 2009. 1240x818 57008570036m67coalpit180609.jpg |
Still carrying the nameplate (Robert Boyle) it was given when first introduced into traffic 60013 rolls along at 10mph on the final leg of the journey to Westerleigh Oil Terminal.Running exactly to time it seems such a shame that these machines (60's) have such an uncertain future..17 june 2009.. 1240x907 6b1360013westerleigh170609.JPG |
Thumping up through Charfield is 60013 with the returning empties to Robeston from Westerleigh '6B47'.This location deserted, expect everybody is hanging off the tree's at Purton! ..16 june 2009.. 1240x789 6b4760013charfield160609.JPG |
Recently re-instated 60013 sporting a red nameplate on one side only 'Robert Boyle' (A relation of Susan perhaps) thumps down through Frocester with '6B13',superb! No South-Coast Mafia in evidence today! ..16 june 2009.. 1240x827 6b1360013frocester160609.JPG |
60085 'MINI-Pride of Oxford',one of the 'rare red ones' still hanging in there doing the tank-trains as necessary. Here is '6E41' from Westerleigh to Lindsey passes Frocester, south of Stonehouse.Think I must be one of the last people to do this shot, still, got there in the end! ..16 june 2009.. 1240x827 6e4160085frocester160609.JPG |
Skirting the River Severn at Pirton is seen the empty tanks '6B47' from Westerleigh returning to Robeston for a refill. The Class 60 in charge is unmistakably 'Teenage Spirit' 60074.here in the tranquil countyside this train could be heard several miles away as it worked towards us..02 june 2009.. 1240x827 6b4760074pirton020609.jpg |
As mentioned in previous shot of this working'6B13' it was slowing for a signal-check at Severn-Tunnel-Junction,decided to take a flyer for a 2nd shot of Tug74 at the Junction Station.Managed to get there just in time, here it is again picking up speed just prior to turning left for its journey along the banks of the Severn Estuary!..02 june 2009.. 1240x819 6b13STJtug74020609.jpg |
'6B13' the Robeston to Westerleigh Tank-Train has been the exclusive preserve of 'Celeb' 60074 for quite some time lately, happily this has co-incided with a spell of sunny settled weather. Here is the 'Big Blue Tug' slowing down for a signal check at Severn-TJ at Undy.(Full light,15mph--Perfect!) ..02 june 2009.. 1240x774 600745b13undy020609.jpg |
Since this engine received its Celeb-Repaint getting a decent picture of it was quite difficult, however things are a little easier now it has been confined to the local fuel trains.Have to keep 'bashing it' as if it goes 'Bang' that will be it and indefinate storage would follow...Here it is on the Westerleigh Branch at Westerleigh running quite slowly at line speed(10 mph) just about one mile from the Fuel-Terminal..01 june 2009.. 1231x859 6b13westerleigh010609.JPG |
Approaching the Foot-Crossing in Westerleigh-Village at the regulation 10 mph is '6B13' with the Blue-Celeb 60074 in charge passing the Beef and Buttercups in the adjacent field..01 june 2009.. 1240x808 600746b13westerleighfoot_010609.JPG |
Another view of the 'Teenage Spirit' 60074 emerging from the tunnel at Wickwar, today light was near perfect so now consider it 'job done' for this loco at this location (At last!). Train is of coarse '6B13' down to Westerleigh from Deepest Welsh-Wales at Robeston..29 may 2009.. 1240x868 6b1360074wickwar290509.jpg |
Celeb Repaint 'The Territorial Army Centenary' 60040 was today allocated to the Westerleigh-Lindsey Tanks '6E41' seen here thudding north through Wickwar running as usual about 30-mins or so early......nice.........29 may 2009.. 1240x827 60040wickwar6e41290509.jpg |
Cancer-Trust Banner Locomotive 60074 with one of it's regular Tank-Workings out of West-Wales,this time it was '6B13' to Westerleigh,here powering out of Wickwar-Tunnel as it nears it's destination..28 may 2009.. 1240x827 600746b13wickwar280509.jpg |

Replacement for 60011 has turned out to be 60040,still looking quite smart after months on the coal-circuit out of Liverpool.Went searching for a shot north of this one at a place called Coaley, found it but as was pouring with rain decided it would have to wait for another day.Retired to Cam&Dursley basically to watch this working'6E41' from Westerleigh to Lindsey roar through, luckily a nice large hole appeared in the storm clouds just at the right moment allowing this portrait of the TA-Tug.Jammy or What?..19 may 2009.. 1240x742 tug40.jpg |
1st-chance of this loco at Wickwar with '6B13' coming out of the tunnel there. Not sunny but will have to do for now.Catch it while you can as if it develops a fault that costs more than £9:99p to be fixed expect it will be un-ceremoniously dumped like 90% of class have been already!..18 may 2009.. 1240x822 6b1360074wickwar180509.jpg |
Having watched this engine'60074' shunt up the train together in Westerleigh-Terminal it was decided to try for a shot of the departure even though cloud cover was nearly 100%.As we struggled to this location we got soaked in a sharp rainstorm,I ripped my jeans and was rather plastered in the local mud! Anyway luckily the cloud split to produce a nice shot of '6B47' passing Westerleigh Village on its journey up the branch towards the main-line at Yate.Note the five matching old style murco tanks on the front of the consist..16 may 2009.. 1240x735 60074westerleighvillage160509.JPG |
Having arrived at Westerleigh terminal 60074 then commences to split and shunt the loaded fuel-tanks into position ready to discharge the load. Here'Teenage Spirit' is backing the TEA's into position having split the train.Note the road-sign also refers to the long defunct 'Binliner Terminal' as well! ..16 may 2009.. Footnote..Each TEA tank hold just over 100,000 litres of fuel, that makes each tankload worth in excess of £100.000:00. and a trainload approaching £3-million.......A pretty valuable payload!!! 1240x827 60074westerleighshunt160509.jpg |
Do not get the impression this was a lovely summer's day,sun emerged from a massed blanket of cloud seconds before train appeared around the far corner. Here is 60074 the ertswhile 'Celeb' in the final mile of its journey from Robeston to Westerleigh with '6B13' loaded fuel tanks.Think my jinx with this loco now well and truly over as last four shots of it have all been pretty much full light! ..16 may 2009.. 1240x827 600746b13westerleighbridge160509.jpg |
'Teenage Spirit' 60074 speeds through Badminton with '6B33' empties from Theale back to Robeston for a refill. These tanks-trains are now pretty much the only regular booked work left for the remaining class-60's.Thankfully a fair proportion of these trains pass within 30 miles or so of home,Schenker are still toying with the concept of 59/2's on these trains, another trial due to take place within the next few weeks.....We will wait and see? ..12 may 2009.. 1240x827 6b33600074badminton120509.jpg |
'Jaguar' 60065 with '6B13' from Robeston down to the Terminal at Westerleigh rumbles out of Wickwar Tunnel on the final leg before the junction at Yate. From there it is a slow grind the last few miles to the Fuel-Depot..12 may 2009.. 1240x827 6b1360065wickwar120509.jpg |
Thudding up from Westerleigh going all the way to Lindsey is Blue Tug 60011 seen at Wickwar in the northern outskirts of Bristol.Scrawled in the crud on the side is the name 'Empire of India',a reminder of another loco from a different era that also carried this number! ..12 may 2009.. 1240x863 60011wickwar6e41linsley120509.jpg |
Running over 2 hours early! at this stage of its journey,"6B33" thuds past Badminton with 60065 at the helm. Working is of coarse the Theale to Robeston Empty Tanks..07 may 2009.. 1240x931 600656b332hrsearlybadminton070509.jpg |
After arrival at Westerleigh the train engine then splits the train into two equal portions and positions them so that all tanks can be unloaded.60074 seen in the middle of this shunting activity reversing back for the first drop off..07 may 2009.. 1240x827 60074westerleighdepot070509.jpg |
"Teenage Spirit" slowly negotiates the single-line down to Westerleigh Terminal with "6B13" just as a V-ger is seen to be crossing the viaduct just here where it flies over the branch..07 may 2009.. 1240x842 60074westerleighvger070509.jpg |
Running down the branch to Westerleigh Murco Terminal at a steady 10mph is "6B13",engine today was the celeb repaint 60074 "Teenage Spirit"doing a remarkable impression of one of the old "British Steel" liveried tugs of a few years ago..07 may 2009.. 1240x847 600746b13westerleigh070509.jpg |
So there we were, sat in the car at Farleaze about a mile east wishing we hadn't bothered due to full cloud cover when a largish 'hole' appeared in the murk,so a quick dash to this spot on the right side (just in case) finally gave me this full sun shot of 60074 after 7 previous failed efforts! Meter reading on camera actually implied exposure was 1/2 brighter than full-sun setting???...To say we were stunned at the level of light would be an understatement....anyway this is '6B33' running pretty much to time passing Farleaze nr Badminton, empty tanks from Theale back to Robeston in Taffy-Land..05 may 2009.. 1240x827 60074farleaze050509.jpg |
This is the 6th go at this loco(6th dim shot).Getting to be a bit of a Voodoo-Engine now to me,plenty of shots when it was grey but now ???? .. Anyway here the re-instated 60074 tugs through Badminton with "6B33" doing one of its usual tricks running about an hour ahead of booked time and about an hour ahead of the sun as well.Expect it to stay in the area on tank-trains for a few weeks so more chances to follow.Probably it will be going to Eastleigh open-day but don't think I can face the scrummage that will be!..28 april 2009.. 1240x827 6b3360074badminton280409.jpg |

Tug-65 "Jaguar" about to roll under the final bridge before arriving at the Murco-Terminal at Westerleigh with the loaded "6B13" from Robeston South-Wales.Despite appearances getting the shot in sunlight was a bit of luck with 90% cloud around the big bright yellow ball!..25 april 2009.. 1240x827 60065westerleigh6b13250409.jpg |
One of the now few surviving operational "Tugs" is 60065 "Jaguar" Here seen shunting the now-divided train of fuel-tanks shortly after arriving here at Westerleigh Terminal with "6B13".Note all the crap just left around by the slovenly oik's that claim to be maintaining the infrastructure! ..23 april 2009.. 1240x827 6b1360065westterleigh230409.JPG |

Here "6Z37" from Eastleigh to Gloucester passes Arn-Hill nr Warminster returning 7 repaired "scrap" JRA wagons to the Advenza base there.Haulage for this was 47237.No doubt this engine will end up riding in some of these wagons soon rather than hauling them the way Cotswold treat their motive-power!!!!!..02 april 2009.. 1240x833 47237arn020409.jpg |

"Charles Darwin" 60068 tugs "6E41" up through Wickwar with the delayed (2Hrs) tanker-train from Westerleigh to Lindsey.Delay due to some poor unfortunate ending it all somewhere near Cam&Dursley, naturally police declared entire line from Bristol to Gloucester a "crime-scene"..10 march 2009.. 1240x827 600686e41wickwar100309.JPG |

One of only two active "Mainline"liveried loco's left at this time is 60011.Recently returned from store (but for how long?).Seen stopped at the "Feather-signal" at Fairwood nr Westbury waiting for a path into the "down-yard".Being held for a westbound HST.This working"6W43" came from overnight engineering works nr Dainton in Devon and is carrying replaced ballast ..22 february 2009.. 1240x784 6w4360011fairwood220209.JPG |

Tug-49 continues to do good work for DB-Schenker even though itself and remaining classmates have been well kicked in the proverbials. Here is seen that loco with "6W42" running down the Frome avoider heading for a worksite somewhere near Dainton in Devon from Westbury. As wagons are empty will return tomorrow with a load of spent ballast. Unique feature on this particular class member is the total lack of the snowplough/skirt below the buffers on one end only, (front end in this case)..21 february 2009.. 1240x868 6w4260049styles2210209.JPG |
With the sun just poking through a thin cloud base to provide a bit of lighting 60049 is captured on the returning Eastleigh-Westbury "7V41" Engineers train, with a nice load of rails and sleepers in tow.Location is Arn-Hill nr Warminster. Not long to go now for this sadly "Not-Needed" class! ..20 february 2009.. 1240x933 7v4160049ehwygranada200209.JPG.jpg |
With the sun now going down on the class 60's any chance to record possible final movements have to be taken, hence this quite dull shot of 60011 in pretty much original "Mainline Blue" heading back to Whatley Quarry from Appleford with "6C48".Working viewed a Berkley-Marsh nr Frome..19 february 2009..Footnote---After nearly 20 years of taking pictures and video here, this was to be the last shot before "Notwork-Rail" bollicks it up with a huge relay-cabin and a radio-mast. Advenza-Freight's 57006 was called upon today to power this working"6Z75" from Eastleigh to Gloucester.A stock move comprising of eleven "TEA" bogie-tanks.Running right on time train seen at the top of Upton-Scudamore bank nr Warminster..17 february 2009.. 1230x820 570066z75upton170209.JPG |
With DB-Schenker now really putting the "JackBoot" into the Class 60's (Only 17% left in service at this time), obtaining decent shots of any remaining workings is becoming a "must do".....Here is seen 60085"MINI-Pride of Oxford" passing a snowy Great-Cheverill with the (still) 60 powered "6B33" empty fuel from Theale to Margam-Yard diverted via the B&H due to engineering work on it's regular "top-road" path. ..07 february 2009.. 1230x820 600856b33cheverill070209.jpg |

Running as "6Z51" from Appleford to Willesden is 60060 with a set of very grubby MBA's.Viewed passing South-Moreton nr Didcot. This working is connected with the ongoing "Olympic" project in East-London..27 january 2009..(If you see this on Mark Few's site it is because he nicked it!) 1230x834 60060applewillesden6z51270109.JPG |
"Cairn Toul" 60072 drops down into the suburbs of Bristol, viewed at Filton Abbey-Wood.This is "6C80" from Machen to Westbury using ex-RH Roadstone JGA hoppers now in Freightliner livery.Scene was well lit but sun was by now getting rather low in the sky, hence the yellowish tinge!..24 january 2009.. 1230x744 6c80machenabbeywood240109.jpg |
Grinding to a halt past the semaphore signals at Park-Junction, so driver can give-up the tablet for the single line from Machen-Quarry is 60072 with "6C80",the 14:10 Machen to Westbury. Not often seen is the Class-60/Freightliner JGA wagon combination!..24 january 2009.. 1230x772 6c8060072parkjuncmachenwy24012009.jpg |
If anybody asks me if I chased this train all the way from Shrivenham to Peterstone, west of Newport in S-Wales I will deny it...Everybody knows wild-goose chases rarely pay off. That theory was proved yet again here.Beat it quite easily, waited 15mins in full light then as it appeared in the distance out went the lights.I think the fact Jamie Squibbs turned up 25 secs before it arrived may have had some bearing on it.As we all know most of his stuff is photographed in the dull!!!..24 january 2009.. 1230x820 spirit_of_peterstone.JPG |
Target Train "6B33" turned out the freshly cleaned 60074 "Teenage Spirit". As usual right on cue the previously bright sunlight collapsed as a patch of thin crud passed by.By the time it reached its destination at Margam in S-Wales this working was 2 hours early!..24 january 2009.. 1230x820 6b3360074shrivenham240109.JPG.jpg |
Now regarded as a True Celebrity 60059 "Swinden Dalesman",the only remaining Loadhaul liveried loco of any sort thuds up through Clink with Tug favourite working "6M20" from Whatley to St-Pancras in the Smoke...Captured in partial sunlight, still makes a fine site with the set of ex-peak forest orange rmc's behind..23 january 2009.. 1230x598 600596m20berkleydodgingclouds.jpg |
"7O40" Merehead to Eastleigh, passes Berkley nr Frome.Upon reaching Westbury loco has to run round its train to continue its journey to the South-Coast.Loco on it today was 60059 "Swinden Dalesman" looking even more tatty than ever. Will it receive a repaint? On this subject 3 class 60's were at Westbury today covering for unavailable class 59/2's.Rumour has it these are to be the first to get the "DB repaint" treatment.Logical really as these are the newest locomotives that company actually owns!--------watch this space---..16 january 2009.. 1240x827 704060059berkley160109.jpg |
Now regarded as a "Celeb" in its faded "Loadhaul" paint-job 60059 crawls up the incline at Upton-Scudamore with "7O40" Merehead to Eastleigh stone delivery. As usual sun did a disappearing act in a bank of cloud whilst sky overhead was a lovely shade of blue!..16 january 2009.. 1240x827 7o4060059upton160109.jpg |

Although I left home (Frome) under a clear blue morning sky, conditions very soon went sour as the mist rolled in through the morning, having got as far as Didcot before plans were abandoned decided to cut losses and just record this regular working before jacking it in and heading back home....60066 heads "6B33" Theale-Margam empty tanks viewed (just) passing the loops at Steventon on the main. The usual Didcot-PS Towers are invisable today due to dank conditions.Temperature here was sub-zero so I was well pleased when it turned up within minutes of pitching up to the bridge..10 january 2009.. 1240x827 60066b33steventon100109.JPG |
What a nice sound these two made as they whistled away from a stop at Bristol-Parkway to allow a v-ger to pass.Train is of coarse a "Flask" working from Bridgewater heading for Cumbria.Loco's are 20310 and 20306..16 december 2008.. 1250x833 2031020306parkway161208.JPG |

Taken 4 years ago with a non-slr digi---57009 swings through Brinkworth with "4O51" Cardiff-Wentloog to Southampton-Millbrook service. This turn at this time was a firm "57" working.By this time the writing was on the wall for the 57's with FL .Still around to this day(DRS and Advenza) but not now on Liners..25 october 2005.. 1250x878 4051wentloogmillbrookbrinkworth25102005.jpg |

Long-Long tele of 60024 with a diverted "6E41" from Westerleigh to Lindsley tank train, diverted this way due to engineering works in the Cheltenham area. The wooded acre-age behind the train used to be a large marshalling yard known as Cocklebury, just east of Swindon..06 december 2008.. 2785x1922 60024tele_6e41westerlieghlindseycocklebury06122008.jpg |
Former "Celeb" 60031 now just another anonymous red-tug viewed approaching Swindon at Cocklebury Loops with "6B33" Theale to Margam empty fuel-tanks.Loco looks like it has been victim of a light shunting mishap judging by the buffer-shaped dent in front skirt!....Saturdays would be a lot duller without this good old standby!..06 december 2008.. 1250x833 60031swindon6b3306122008.jpg |

Having completed its trip round the MGR unloading loop at Didcot PS 60010 draws the now empty train away from the complex, back to Didcot Parkway Station where loco will run round its load and take these empties back to Avonmouth for a refill.....Sadly this photogragh was taken at almost the exact time as the Hitchin Train Crash was happening in the ECML..17 october 2000.. 3488x2184 60010didcotPS17oct2000.jpg |
